New Players Wanted for 2019

Bayside Saints have 3 teams in the AFL Masters Vic Metro League, for over 35’s (must be turning 35 in current year), over 40’s, and over 45’s. It is a strong standard of football, particularly in the over 35's competition, with numerous ex-AFL and ex-VFL players participating.

We have plenty of players who have been out of the game for some years, and have then decided to get back into it. So whether you’re still playing Saturday footy, or haven’t played for several years, we invite you to come down and have a look, or join in at one of our training sessions. Whether it be round 1 or round 10, new players are always welcome anytime through out the year.

Matches are played every 2nd Sunday during the AFL season. Training is every Wednesday

Rd 4 v Dingley/Parkdale Reports

We saw this game as the big opportunity to get a win on the board. We had a solid side in on paper after getting a few back from injury – But still just getting a side together… During the week we spoke about a very specific way we wanted to play and we all knew our roles.

On the field it was clear they were a much bigger side and we had to play to our strengths.
The first half started with Dingley coming out strongly but we were able to match them. They looked dangerous with their bigger forwards but when we able to get the ball into space and move the ball with shorter hit up kicks, we were able to get on top. Jules, Blake, Gill and Winger were able to find plenty of space and separation up forward if we were able to get first use of the ball from the centre. Johhny Rombotis was intercepting down back and setting ups things nicely working very well with Dan Mercer. And through the middle Cats, Troy, Scotty and Teels were creating plenty of opportunities and working really hard.
Overall the game plan was working nicely and we were creating plenty of space for our forwards and also clogging up their forwards and putting pressure on the ball carriers.

By half time we had played our best footy for the year and went in with a lead.
Half time 6.2 – 38 to 3.5 – 23.

There was a determined effort to come out strong as our 3rd quarters hadn’t been great recently. It continued to be a fairly even contest until ‘the incident’ – Johhny R was Green Carded from a very minor incident and from the point we started to struggle with one key man down for the rest of the day. Despite continued efforts from all we were not able to hold up. There were a few missed opportunities, a missed handball there and an errant kick there that really cost us at times.

And finally their big guys stood tall toward the end – One in particular kicking an Eddie Betts type goal from the boundary….
What cant be questioned was the effort as we never gave up but in the end fell short…

Final Score
Bayside 7.8.50
Dingley 9.9.63
Goals 2 Winger, Teels, 1 Blake, Cats, Jules
Better Players – Cats, Dan, Jules, Teels, Troy, Winger, Scotty, Belly

Back on our home ground after 8 weeks away. In great conditions we came up against another potential finalist Dingley. We went in with several unavailable players but the pleasing part is guys come in and play the role we ask.
1st Quarter
Dingley on the rebound always is a tough assignment. Importantly it was a must to start well and we did. Our backline was solid with second gamer Johnny Mac (TJ) giving the opportunity in the backline and didn't let us down. Mids were well on top giving our forwards plenty of looks and with New Simmo on fire kicking our first 3 goals we went at quarter time 22 pts up.

2nd Quarter
We started like the first with our mids .Jezz,Ben,Tim and Matt P controlling the play and sending the ball deep into our 50. Unfortunately the scoreboard didn't reflect on the dominant we were.We went in at half time with a 25 pt lead.

3rd Quarter
We came out as we have in all games this year in the third quarter and widen the gap.We continued to share the ball and support each other to go into the break 40 pts up.
4th Quarter
We rotated guys around to learn more about guys. With Midas coming on which he thought was 5 min stint but extended to 12 min he played a great supporting role in the ruck.Dave P not happy getting smashed around with no blood found a way to come off with blooding flowing from his head. Amazing to see a guy blood streaming out smiling and wanting to get back on.

Pleasing sign is the the way we play for one another. When asked to play in another position no one moans they get on with the job of playing the role for the team.

Next game 2 undefeated sides.Spots in the side are becoming harder to select which is a great issue. So it will comedown to training and how we perform in games. Lets get to training Wednesday and start to build for what will be our biggest test against a quality team in Cranbourne.

Scores.Bayside 11.10 76 Def Dingley 5.8 38
Goals. New Simmo 5,Johnno W 2,Burmer 1,Jezz,1Evan1,JRod 1
Better Players New Simmo,Dave,P Jezz,Tim,Johnny Mac in basically what was a great team effort.

When we played Parkdale 4 wks ago, we won by 9 points.  Sunday had Bayside in 4th spot on the ladder with 12 pts & Parkdale sitting fifth on 8 pts, but with a greater %.  Parkdale knew they had to beat us if they were gonna play Finals.  According to their Team list before Sunday, they had 17 different Players from last time.  We had 14.

Bayside had to get a good start & the midfield did their job by repeatedly getting it into the Forward line. This resulted in 4 goals straight for the Qtr, to Parkdale’s one.

The 2nd Qtr saw Parkdale  get their outside Runners getting more of the footy but our Backline lead by the Silver-Shadow, WATTSY at FB repel nearly all their attacks resulting their 1 goal for the Qtr, vs our 4 goals.  The Backline showed they were teaming-up really well & working for each other.  Our forwards were presenting & causing havoc with the ball being shared around.

The 3rd Qtr had Parkdale come out more determined.  They got more of the footy than we did & really started to use the ball better.  They started lookin for their Forwards with accurate delivery.  Parkdale got the better of our Forwards & kept us to 1 goal.

In the 4th Qtr ,TJ &  our 3-way Rover brigade with S Bayes & Judda in the middle & our Wingers on top, saw Bayside spread & outwork Parkdale.  Parkdale moved their bigger Players into their Forward line, with our Backline, once again standing firm & getting the ball out of danger, repeatedly.  Final score of 11.6 (72) to Parkdale 3.7 (25).

Overall it was a good win.  It was great to welcome back Wattsy, Scott Shearer & of course, Wardy, after several years of retirement(?).  Keano let himself down by letting his bloke get 1 x possession for the game.  Dean Wall kept his 4 goal avg goin & caused headaches for his opponents before goin off, 3 mins into the last Qtr.

A thankyou to Pete Stevens for his work on the sidelines & Arfur for runnin the water

As discussed there is only 8 x Wednesday training sessions b/w now & the last game against Beacy on 11-Aug.

Goal Kickers:- Wall 4, McNair 1, with singles to Shearer, Fisher, SS, Ward,  Smith & JD

Better Players:  All Backline players,  D. Wall, TJ & Fish

Major Sponsor

For the 2nd year running Lachy Haig and his team OX Finance have thrown their support behind our club.

OX Finance

More about OX Finance:

Master’s multiple premiership player Lachlan Haig runs this business which specializes in the following:

- Home Loans

- Business Finance, specifically on commercial properties

- Equipment Finance, anything from a car to business equipment such as trucks, etc

- Insurance Premium Funding which essentially allows clients to manage their cash flow and to make their payments for their insurance bills monthly instead of paying the full amount upfront.

The website advises what I do but in essence, I am a finance broker and I am there to get the best deal for clients for their finance needs. I have access to a range of financiers, some the first tier financiers and from there I have access to the smaller financiers. In regards to insurance premium funding, this is a niche industry and again, I do my own premium funding or I can access the greater market to get the best deal for clients.

If anyone wants to have me look at their current lending so I can get a better deal for them, then that is when I come in. Banks (especially for home loans) are constantly amending their rates in the market at present due to regulatory change and also due to cost of funds for the banks and with my knowledge and contacts, I can source better arrangements.

Lachy and the OX Finance team have sponsored the club to the tune of $2k but if they can generate some business from the Bayside Saints community, they will also be able to contribute more sponsorship dollars for the club. For example, if I can do one home loan for instance, then I can contribute a little more to the club during the year. If I can do a few loans for players, then I am happy to contribute a fair bit more and that could easily be in the vicinity of $5k throughout the year.

Anything else you require, please let me know.
